A NEW-LOOK West Wilts side slipped to a 3-1 home defeat against Westbury and UB in the Davis Wood League Championship at Kingdown School.
The home side fielded three debutants – Sam Creedy, Louis Clayton and Jamie Batten – but fell behind to an early goal.
Wilts clicked into gear and pulled a well-worked equaliser back through the neat stick skills of Dan Shepherd and captain Mark Brothers, leaving Matthew Elloway with a simple finish.
However the visitors grabbed the lead again before half time and conceded a third late in the second half.
There was little joy for the West Wilts A team either as they slipped to a 4-1 defeat at Devizes in their Central Two clash. Dave Yalland’s pass to Mike Roast allowed the latter to give the visitors the perfect start.
Devizes hit back with goals from player-coach Ollie Smith, Mike Greenman, Josh Bond and Jack Gomple.
WEST Wilts Ladies made the perfect start to their West Clubs League East Division campaign with an 8-4 victory over Weymouth at Warminster Sports Centre.
Promoted last season, the home side fell behind but levelled when Amanda Robson’s run ended with Aileen Watson scoring.
Two more Weymouth goals put them in control, but Wilts fought back hard and Fiona Pridham pulled one back from a short corner just before half time.
A fourth Weymouth goal went in after the break, but that kicked Wilts into life, Watson scoring three more goals.
Amy York and Suzanne Powell added strikes and Karla Cundick’s penalty flick rounded off the victory.
George Garrity and Sarah Thomas were the scorers for the second team, who lost 6-2 to North Wilts, playing in Swindon.
