Trowbridge Town Centre was packed on Saturday for the first Fore Street Food Festival.

Organised by the new Trowbridge Town Team, the festival filled Fore Street with stalls selling all sorts of locally produced food and drink, as well as arts and crafts and gifts. Ellie Gill, of Trowbridge Town Team, said: “It was brilliant; really really good. “I’d never seen so many people in Trowbridge. It was fantastic. It was such a good feeling and an amazing vibe.

“It was lovely for the producers, as well, to have so many happy customers. At one point, I looked up and there were all these customers dancing around stalls.

“We were absolutely blessed with the weather. It was pretty horrid either side, but it was a fabulous day.”

Musicians provided entertainment throughout the afternoon and organisations, including Trowbridge Tou-rist Information Centre and Fairtrade Trowbridge, gave out information and answered questions. Ms Gill said: “We really tried to tie it in with as much stuff going on in the town as possible.”

Many of the stallholders completely sold out, including a cupcake stall, cider vendor and artisan bakery stall.

Ms Gill said the success of the weekend’s market was a boost for Trowbridge Town Team’s plans to start a weekly market in Fore Street in spring next year. She said: “It just goes to show people from Trow-bridge are prepared to come out and have a good time there. You just have to provide that space. “They want something different, they want something that’s good for them and wholesome.”

In November a Dickensian Christmas market will be held in Fore Street, again organised by the Town Team, to launch the festive season in Trowbridge.
