Sprinter Danny Talbot visited his old primary school, along with Paralympic medallist Aaron Moores last Friday, to open a new school building. Both Danny and Aaron, who won silver in the S14 100m backstroke, addressed children at an assembly at St John’s Primary School, explaining how they got involved in their sports and urging their 300-strong audience to aim high.
They opened the Foundation classroom, two music rooms, a library and chapel by cutting a ribbon at the entrance.
Yvonne Wilkins, deputy headteacher, said: “They created a real buzz around the school which lasted the entire day. They were so good with the children, sharing a genuine enthusiasm for their sport.
“The children certainly enjoyed the day, which they will remember for a long time. Who knows what seeds have been sown to inspire future Olympians.”
