Students from King House at Devizes School last week presented a cheque for £290 to Cancer Research UK in memory of their late school friend, Harry Dodds.

Fifteen-year-old Harry died after a battle with brain cancer earlier this year. His schoolmates chose Cancer Research UK as their charity of the year and have held fundraising events, from stocks where teachers had wet sponges thrown at them to selling cakes, secondhand books and jewellery.

Teacher Susie Gonzalez said: “Two of our pupils have died from cancer in recent times so the students wanted to support Cancer Research UK.”

Maria Gomez, area volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK, collected the cheque. She said: “We are so grateful for the generosity of the pupils. We’d like to work with schools in the area to help them raise money and awareness. I can be reached on 07918 196031.”
