FOOTBALL: Trevor’s talk does the trick

TREVOR Rawlings is hoping that his Corsham Town side can draw on their killer instinct more often now after they thrashed local rivals Warminster Town 4-0 on Wednesday evening.

Corsham ran out comfortable winners at Southbank but only held a fragile 1-0 lead at half-time and Rawlings revealed that he had some choice words for his players during the interval.

“We scored an early goal but we seemed to want to settle for a 1-0 lead and I wasn’t happy at all,” said the Corsham manager.

“We ripped in to them a bit in the changing rooms and they did go out and make the game safe but we should have had the result safe in the first half.

“Teams have punished us in the past but we don’t seem to want to punish other teams.

“We’ve had situations like the game against Cribbs Life, where we were 2-0 up and ended up losing 3-2 because we sat back.

“It was a good result but we need to try and have a bit more of that killer instinct in the future.”

Danny Baker opened the scoring for the hosts before goals from Ross Lye, Jamie Moss and Ben Moore put the result beyond doubt.

Warminster boss Adam Collington was dismayed by his side’s display.

Collington admitted: “That’s the worst I’ve seen us play and I’ve said it before but we seem to be making basic errors.

“It’s all right saying ‘do this and do that’ to the players but if they don’t implement it, then we’re not going to do well. “I’m sure that we’re just one good win away from getting our confidence back though.”

Last Saturday, Warminster lost 1-0 to Keynsham Town.

Kane Kauppinen could return for Rawlings’ men when they take on SKS Blyskawica in the Wiltshire Senior Cup tomorrow while Collington’s side will be without suspended keeper Carl Crabtree against Trowbridge Town.
