Middle Ages arrives with spooky stalls in Melksham

A medieval market will come to Melksham this month, as shops start to prepare for late-night openings.
Stores will open later in the run-up to Christmas, but shopkeepers are also planning a Halloween event to get people in a festive mood.
The Prince of Wales Garden in Church Street will become a medieval marketplace, offering hand-made crafts and one-off gifts.
The garden will also get a period makeover from the Melksham Lights charity during the event on October 27, from 10am to 5pm.
The project is being organised by Hayley Spencer, owner of Melksham KomiX. She said: “The mini-market will showcase areas of the town people may not know about and promote other independent businesses that don’t necessarily have a physical outlet.
“We’ll have food and drink stalls and we hope to get some live music going.”
Late night Christmas markets will run between 3pm and 10pm on the four Thursdays before Christmas.
