A SEVENTH successive home fixture, their fifth in the league reaped another three points for Mark Hurkett’s early Division Three table toppers Westwood News, who kept their 100 per cent start to the season intact thanks to a workmanlike performance which earned them a 4-3 victory over Lacock FC who had started in second.

Not for the first time this season Tom Rooney proved to be the star turn for Westwood and it was thanks to his late goal that Hurkett’s side kept their unbeaten start to the season going.

Apart from his hat-trick, the hosts were subdued for much of the game despite taking the lead when Rooney netted his first from 18 yards out to put the leaders ahead.

A disputed penalty saw Lacock level with Stuart Tutty scored from the spot to restore parity.

Rooney’s second of the afternoon put Westwood back in front only for Lacock to fashion a second equaliser, this time it was Liam Shipman who found the target to square things up before the interval.

After the break Lacock took the game to Westwood and the deservedly took the lead with substitute Jamie Murphy scoring to put the visitors ahead and the hosts on the back foot.

As Westwood struggled to get back into the game they were handed a lifeline when they were awarded somewhat of a soft penalty which Harry Hamlin dispatched to make it 3-3.

With both sides going for maximum points it was Westwood who prevailed and thanks to man of the moment Rooney they bagged what was the winner six minutes from time.

It saw him complete his second hat trick in as many games, but more importantly for Westwood, it secured them a 4-3 success that keeps them in pole position for a few more weeks at least.

Bradford United Reserves 2 Levi’s FC 3

A LATE goal from Jason Povey saw him complete a hat-trick and hand Levi’s a 3-2 victory at Bradford United Reserves who, with just seconds left looked as if they would get a point from a game which their efforts deserved.

Jason Povey saw his opener for Levi’s cancelled out by Aiden Lane, but thanks to a second from the in-form striker Levi’s edged back in front before half time.

Bradford got themselves level thanks to a well taken goal from Will Darley and they looked on course for a share of the spoils until Povey popped up with the winner with virtually the last kick of what was a thrilling end to end game of football.

Bratton Reserves 1 United FC 1 - abandoned after 31 minutes

THE match at Leighton Sports Ground, Westbury between hosts Bratton Reserves and United FC was abandoned after 31 minutes due to United player Lukas Konicek suffering a broken leg.

Trowbridge Rangers 4 Trowbridge Town Reserves 2

A DAN Moore hat-trick helped Trowbridge Rangers overturn a 2-1 half time deficit as they came from behind to beat local rivals Trowbridge Town Reserves 4-2 and pick up their first win in three outings.

Rangers got off to the perfect start and led with just two minutes on the clock, Moore finishing well from 16 yards to give the hosts their lead.

Ferguson jinked past three players before firing home from distance to give the visitors to Whaddon Lane their half-time lead.

The second half was expected to be all Trowbridge Reserves but that wasn’t the case as Rangers raised their game and got back on level terms thanks to a second from Moore.

Moore completed his hat-trick and regained the lead for Rangers when he beat veteran keeper Bob Arburry at his near post and the victory was wrapped up when Adam Hatch sent Arburry one way while his shot from 18 yards went the other way.
