HILPERTON sprinter Danny Talbot has been selected for lottery funding for next year by UK Athletics.

Talbot, who made his Olympic debut running in Great Britain's 4x100m sprint relay squad at the London 2012 Games in August, is included on the World Class Performance Programme for 2013.

UKA have narrowed the focus for funding from athletes with top-eight potential to those who are major championship medal contenders in the next Olympic cycle and big-name athletes to miss out include marathon runner Paula Radcliffe.

Talbot, who underlined his potential by winning a bronze medal over 200m at the European Championships in Helsinki just prior to the Olympics, has been supported on the basis of his potential to medal as part of a relay team.

UKA Performance Director Neil Black said: “Being part of the World Class Performance Plan is a privilege and not a right and athletes selected will be expected to fulfill tough performance criteria.

"We have identified a very talented group of athletes for support over the coming year and I am confident that we can build on the success of the last Olympic and Paralympic cycle starting with the European Indoors in Gothenburg in March.''

Veteran Broughton Gifford-based hurdles coach Malcolm Arnold, based at the University of Bath, has a posse of athletes who have earned funding, including world champion 400m hurdler Dai Greene and Lawrence Clarke, who was fourth in the men's 110m hurdles final at London 2012.
