Chippenham mechanic Max Clarke is the best in the country.

Mr Clarke, 20, right, was named Service Technician Apprentice of the Year by Citroen UK and Peugeot PSA.

His triumph came after completing his three years’ training at Chippenham Motor Company, Bumpers Farm, achieving NVQ levels 2 and 3 and a technical certificate.

He was one of six finalists who last Thursday did six practical tests, including diagnostic and repair procedures, and an interview at Peugeot and Citroen’s training base in Coventry. He was later revealed as the winner.

He said: “I was elated, it was unbelievable.”

His prize includes a toolkit worth £1,500 and a trip to Citroen’s rally team headquarters in France.

Mr Clarke said of his job: “I enjoy the challenge. You don’t have anything come in that is the same.”
