A Warminster woman died in hospital on Saturday, after she sustained serious injuries in a crash on the A36 near Wylye.

Vicky Knight, 24, died at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, where she was airlifted by the Great Western Air Ambulance after the crash last Wednesday.

A passenger in an Audi A3, she had been trapped unconscious in the car after it collided with a Citroën Berlingo at around 8.45am. She suffered serious injuries to her head and pelvis, and possible internal injuries.

The man driving the car, also believed to be in his 20s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.

The man driving the Berlingo was assessed and treated for minor injuries at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.

Ms Knight was the fourth person this year to die after an accident on the A36 between Deptford and Warminster. Antony and Altea Barrington-Brown died in January, and Stanley ‘Rocky’ Knight in June.

Wiltshire Cllr Christopher Newbury, for Wylye, is one of the organisers of a meeting of Warminster Area Board on November 8 which will discuss the road and its dangers, and wants the Highways Agency to start to take safety on the A36 more seriously.

“I sincerely hope the Highways Agency will be able to find the time and resources to deal with these serious problems on the A36,” he said. “It would be good to see a representative at the meeting next month.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to last week’s accident to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Devizes on 101 ext 7203111.
