Former treasurer admits theft from Chippenham Sea Cadets

The former treasurer of Chippenham Sea Cadets Corps, James Palmer, pleaded guilty at North Wiltshire Magistrates Court today to fraud by abuse of position.

Palmer, 47, and of no fixed abode, is accused of taking nearly £16,000 while he was treasurer of the group for three years.

Between October 2007 and November 2010 he is said to have stolen the money by making transfers from the sea cadet’s bank account to his own and cashing 29 cheques in various parts of the country.

Palmer was held in custody until his appearance at court today and was released on unconditional bail. He will appear at Swindon Crown Court on November 23.
