RAF Lyneham has been abuzz with green fluorescent uniform as a crew from the Avon Ambulance visited to get some flying experience.

As members of the First Response scheme, medics based at Lyneham attend emergency calls as a back up to the ambulance service.

The ambulance crew got the chance last week to look around the base and find out how the medics there go about their daily work.

It was then time to take to the air to practice how the two teams would respond to a 990 call.

Chris Cooper, duty officer of the Avon Ambulance Service, said: "The ambulance service has always enjoyed a healthy relationship with RAF Lyneham, the training of first responders and the joint approach to civil contingencies are just a couple of examples.

"Over 30 RAF/Army personnel now work closely with operational paramedics within the first response scheme thus giving ambulance staff the opportunity to visit Lyneham and experience an C-130 Hercules flight is a great way to increase moral and further strengthen the organisational partnership."
