PRINCE Edward will be visiting a school in Wiltshire later this morning for the official naming of a new £2m science centre.

The Earl of Wessex will be visiting Warminster School, which this year celebrates it tercentenary, for the official naming of the state-of-the-art Wessex Science Centre.

The science laboratory with adjacent library and ICT resource suite cost around £2m to build and will be the hub of excitement later at about 11.45am when the royal arrives for the unveiling of the plaque.

Dr David Hankey, head of science, said "It is with great pleasure and an honour that HRH the Earl of Wessex, who through his work with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme has great interest in young people and their development, will be able to share in the success and pride felt by staff and pupils by officially opening the Wessex Science Centre".

Prince Edward is due to arrive by helicopter landing on the school's rugby pitch shortly before lunch where he will then be escorted to the Boniface Chapel to meet and greet staff and children.

In the afternoon the Prince will be travelling to Trowbridge where he will be given a tour of a charity's headquarters in Bythesea Road.

He will meet with staff and residents at the Amber Foundation's hostel, which caters for young people battling to deal with homelessness, drink and drug abuse and unemployment.
