CHILDREN stood on their tiptoes with faces pressed against the shop window while young teenage girls jostled for position at the head of the line.
Hundreds of people queued outside WH Smith in Regent Street yesterday, but this was not a mad rush for a special stationary sale.
They were all there to catch a glimpse of one of the most photographed women in the country. That's the pulling power of Katie Price - or Jordan as she used to be known.
The glamour model, turned author turned pop star, kept people on tenterhooks as she visited the town to sign copies of her new book Pushed To The Limit.
Many waited with cameras outstretched in anticipation of her arrival.
The 29-year-old was cheered as she made her way to greet the Swindon public.

Security guards and her agent flanked her as flashbulbs lit up the store.
The mum-of-three opted for a grey causal look with a zipped up top, skirt and boots.
"She's stunning and so down to earth," said Carly Turner.
The 19-year-old from Stratton was at the front of the queue with friend Ashley Dowling.
"It was the first time I have met her and she looks far prettier in real life," Carly added. She definitely has an aura about her and she always looks out for her fans."
Kelly Flanagan, 17, from Middleleaze, said: "She's such a lovely person - I'm a big fan and think she's gorgeous."
Sarah Hicks, 22, said: "She had taken criticism about her parenting skills but I think she's a role model to so many people.
"She appeals to everyone from mums to red blooded males."
Jordan, married to pop star Peter Andre, said the welcome of her fans in Swindon was something she had not expected.
"It's busy and happening. I'm pleasantly surprised by Swindon," she said.
"I want to thank them all for their support."
She said her third autobiography is a frank account of her life to date and hopes it will "inspire people".
It deals with her depression and the happiness she felt at the birth of third child Princess Tiaamii.
A camera crew was filming for Katie's latest reality TV show that will be broadcast in March.
The crew said the number of people waiting for autographs was greater than the previous day's signing in Picadilly, London.
Jordan: Pushed to the Limit is out now, priced at £18.99.

I have nothing against Katie Price but I do wonder about this strange cult of fame for its own sake is all about. My 15 yr old son tells me that many, particularly girls, in his year at school seek the job of being famous.
I, for one, find this somewhat disturbing in that it promotes the notion of something for nothing which underpins our degenerating society.

While I'm tempted to agree with you, I would rather young girls worked to become famous than simply got pregnant at 16 and then did nothing but pump out children to keep up their benefits for the rest of their lives.

If the only choice is between Z list celebrity status and benefits living we may as well all give up.

Her third autobiograpy at 29! Katie Price is a terrible role model in our society, cutting up her body to fit male stereotypes of what's 'sexy'.
In my opinion she looks ridiculous, I prefer natural women who are self-confident and feel comfortable with who they are.

Why is the Adver or any other newspaper publicising this parasite?
She is an appalling role model for any female who has no obvious talent except for self publicity.
She used her sons condition to boost her own profile and is generally vile.

Firstly, stationery is spelt incorrectly - MUPPETS!
That's the pulling power of Kate Price
Secondly, her name is [bold]Katie[/bold] Price!
Princess Tiaiami
Thirdly, her daughter is called: Princess Tiaamii
Jeesus wept, what an insult to this celebrity. You can't even get a few facts right!
It takes two minutes to proof read something/get facts correct. It's not like the Adver has to keep to deadlines like the national press.
You're more of a local embarrassment than Barry Thompson

Sorry, but you lot don't know what your talking about, Katie price is the best role-model around at the moment, what celeb do you know who gives money to charity? None
I think you should just take the time to read her books, to really know what gone in her life from her childhood to her becoming a mum.
If you havent read her books then you have no right to even comment on her.

WTF nobody is perfect, life is not perfect! The Adver do not pretend to be. We could do far worse for a local newspaper inho. The adver invites comments and listens.

I like Katie & have done for years. She has made the best of everything she has and while we may or may not agree no-one can deny she has earnt a lot of money for very little. She obviously loves her family and is a great mum. I admire her and expect I always will.

Is she activley involved in a charity or just chucking a few quid to dodge tax and look good. I'd put a fiver on it being the later.
I would be ashamed if my daughter grew up to present herself as such a bimbo as Jordan.
Not to be totally negative, look at Melinda Messenger who used her time as a model to progress her career, has been involved activley with charities and her private life isn't spread all over the papers like Jordans leg in a mpg!

The point is, who cares about her life; she is famous for being famous and if she is the best role model around then god help us all.
Imagine in the future, no-one does any real work, they just spend all their time attending parties, flashing their baps and appearing on reality TV. What a utopian ideal that suggests.

keep up the free reading online for me though, because I will NEVER buy the darn paper, I'd rather read a Thesaurus upside down!

As you are such a pedant WTF you should know that sentences begin with capital letters, 'thesaurus' should not have a capital T, and you have misspelt both 'embarrass' and I presume 'Jesus' (perhaps this was intentional).

WTF, if it is in your opinion so poor, just what are you doing here so much then?!
I have NEVER heard you say a good word about anything or anybody. It must be very draining being so critical. All that frowning will give you wrinkles dear.

I have the utmost respect for Jordan. She's earned more money in a few years than I will earn in my entire lifetime, simply by getting her baps out.
We live in a country that is obsessed with celebrities and even the slightest wiff of fame can bring you enormous pay cheques if you are prepared to put low quality frozen foods into your mouth (don't worry, you don't have to swallow).
