Lardner wants to stay at Calne

CALNE Town manager Robbie Lardner says he wants to stay on with the Toolstation League Premier Division club next season.

The Lillywhites have endured a frustrating campaign of mixed results, with injuries and unavailability crippling the squad for long periods.

But despite the struggles Lardner is adamant he enjoys life at Bremhill View.

When asked if he wanted to stay with Calne next season, Lardner said: "Yes, definitely. It's a good club, the players are great and the committee do wonders for a small club. I have no reason to go anywhere else.

"We had a frustrating season, there's no denying that. It's been pretty tough but we're not a million miles away from being a decent side. We need to strengthen in one or two areas, we know that."

Calne ended the season in 14th place after a 3-2 loss at home to Bideford.

The visitors led 1-0 at half-time and two quick goals after the interval seemed to put the game beyond doubt.

But Calne came back strongly and efforts from Ben Moore and Dan Lardner restored respectability to the scoreline.

Lardner said: "It was a decent game of football and I thought we played very well.

"They turned up with a strong side and played some good football but we matched them.

"We've had another sloppy couple of minutes in the second half, but we recovered well and gave them a run for their money.

"The two lads up front caused us all sorts of trouble but we showed a lot of character and hung on in there.

"We've had two really entertaining games against them, but they had that little bit of extra quality up front which made the difference.

"It was a far better performance than against Ilfracombe Town a fortnight ago and that was the important thing.

"It was disappointing we didn't get the draw but it was probably a fair result at the end."
