Double triumph for Spitfire girls
Swindon Spitfires U16

Swindon Spitfires' U16s completed the league and cup double with a 3-0 win over Benson United in the Oxford League Cup Final on Saturday.

Spits got off to a quick start with Georgia Walters getting the first of her hat trick in the third minute when Katie New's through ball put her clean through with just the 'keeper to beat.

Eight minutes later Spits got a second goal, Sophie Biberger found Emma Skinner who laid the ball off for Walters to hit on the run to give Benson's Gemma Muttitt no chance in goal. Benson then re-shuffled their formation to try and stem the flow as Spits threatened to run riot, and it seemed to do the trick.

Benson had the woodwork to thank on two occasions, Louise Hoffa from a Walters' corner and an Emily Willson shot from wide left. Spits third and final goal in the twenty-second minute was a tremendous free kick by Walters, from almost on the left touch-line, which flew into the top right corner and would have beaten any 'keeper.

For the remainder of the game Benson worked hard to restrict Spits but without creating too many chances of their own. They did get the ball into the net in the second half when Spits 'keeper Elaine Hall could only parry a cross-shot, but the striker who pounced on the loose ball was adjudged off side.

Spits had further chances of their own in the second period, Rita Shahi forcing Muttitt to dive at her feet on two occasions, and Amy Aitken will be disappointed she didnt take the chance that came her way, but were unable to add to the score line.

Spitfires: Elaine Hall; Becky Horwatt, Sophie Biberger, Alice Willson (c), Louise Hoffa; Rita Shahi, Georgia Leonard, Katie New, Emily Willson; Georgia Walters, Emma Skinner. Subs: Nicole Harding, Sophie Smith, Amy Aitken, Michelle Tompkins, Jenny Gray.

Swindon Spitfires' U15s came from behind to beat Chinnor 2-1 in the Oxford League Cup Final on Saturday and clinch the League and Cup double to complete a fantastic season.

Spits were slow out of the starting blocks as Chinnor exerted all the early pressure and they deservedly took the lead when one of a sting of crosses from the right was finally turned home past Alana Turner.

At this stage there was only one team in it as Spits struggled to get a foot hold in the game. However, slowly but surely, Spits turned things around as they started to use the wings themselves to cause Chinnor problems.

Stacey Long levelled for Spits when she was given time and space in the area to turn and slot home, and within five minutes Alice Smith turned the game on its head as she gave Spits the lead with another composed finish.

Chinnor tried their hardest to get back into the game in the second half and pinned Spits back in their own half for long periods. However the defence stood firm, and behind them Turner had a safe pair of hands, and they kept Chinnor at bay until the final whistle.

Spitfires: Alana Turner; Sophie Pratt, Kat Lewis, Natalie Bozzuto, Hannah Lane; Serena Smith, Lucy March (c), Lauren Hugo, Aimee Rayner; Alice Smith, Stacey Long. Sub: Melissa Boguszewicz.
