POLICE want to speak to a girl about graffiti in Theatre Square.

Officers say that her actions, captured on recently-installed CCTV in the town centre, are typical of vandalism in the area.

PC Andy Alexander, community beat officer for the town centre, says it is in the interest of the youngsters who hang around the square not to protect the girl.

The three girls were caught on CCTV at 2pm on Thursday, March 23. The girl on the right, who police want to speak to, is alleged to have scrawled on a wall of Po Na Na nightclub with a marker pen in an alcove before turning to another wall and writing on that.

PC Alexander said: "They have gone there just to do the damage. This type of mindless behaviour typifies the problems in this area and is one of the reasons for the continuation of the dispersal order."

A dispersal order on the square was recently renewed after it was revealed that the old one was not legal. As previously reported in the Adver, yobs convicted of breaking the dispersal orders in Swindon could be let off because the old orders did not specify the actual anti-social behaviour covered.

But now the order outlines the banned behaviour and PC Alexander says that it will have to stay until the youngsters get the message.

Windows at the old post office in the area have been repeatedly smashed and metal shutters are now up to deter vandals.

Anyone with information on the graffiti incident should call PC Alexander at Swindon police on 0845 408 7000.
