A SWINDON Star Wars fanatic is to feature in a documentary about people whose lives have been taken over by The Force.

True Fan, which is due to be aired later this year, centres on the world's top 10 Star Wars fans, including Swindon's Luke Skywalker, who runs Skywalkers fancy dress shop in Faringdon Road.

Luke recently organised a Star Wars extravaganza at the Marriott Hotel in Swindon and spent hundreds of pounds on a huge tattoo of Darth Vader and Yoda alongside Darth Maul and a Stormtrooper.

He said he is honoured to be featuring in the documentary about a film that has changed his life.

The 39-year-old changed his surname from Kaye to Skywalker when he was 18 after falling in love with the George Lucas-inspired movies, and is preparing himself for a second round of filming for the programme at his Swindon store.

"The documentary is being produced by a filmmaker who has been involved in producing and directing the last three Star Wars films," said Luke.

"He is one of George Lucas' friends, but I can't mention his name as the documentary hasn't been finished yet and it's all a bit top secret at the moment.

"He has been all over the world to places like Australia, Germany and the USA and I'm the UK fan.

"It is going to be such a big programme, called True Fan, and it should be ready by the end of the summer."

And Luke said his reputation nationally was a big factor in him being chosen as the UK's biggest Star Wars fan.

"I'm known as Mr Star Wars in England, which is why I think they decided to choose me. I was on my stall with all my costumes at the NEC in Birmingham when they approached me.

"But to be involved in a worldwide programme like this is really cool because it's about the world's greatest Star Wars nuts," he said.

"The guy from America has built a full-size Millennium Falcon in his back yard and he got the whole neighbourhood to help him build it and that just shows what a big impact Star Wars has had on people. For me Star Wars has got everything romance, creatures, a big baddy and space ships.

"It's the biggest film ever and it still is today. I think it's so popular because everybody wants to be Han Solo or Luke Skywalker."
