HOLIDAYMAKERS from west and north Wiltshire are caught up in major airport delays after a terrorist plot to bomb passenger planes was foiled.

Passengers at all UK airports were affected this morning, with Heathrow cancelling all inbound flights not in the air.

Scotland Yard revealed a terrorist plot to detonate bombs on up to ten planes was foiled, with 21 people arrested in anti-terror raids.

Flights from Bristol International Airport were disrupted with easyJet cancelling planes to destinations including Nice and Barcelona.

Tim Iredale, managing director of Ford garage Reed of Trowbridge in Canal Road, and his wife Jane had their easyJet flight from Bristol to Nice cancelled at 9.15am - an hour before they were due to take-off.

"We checked in and got all the way through to the departure lounge," Mr Iredale told the Wiltshire Times this morning.

"We settled down to read papers when we were told the flight had been cancelled.

"We had to go all the way back and make our way home.

"We have been told there will be no room on flights until Saturday so we are hoping we can rearrange something for Sunday."

Dee Horscroft, 37, of Tulip Close, Chippenham, is due to fly to Scotland tomorrow morning for her sister's wedding.

She is scheduled to fly from Bristol at 7am with easyJet.

"It's going to have a big effect on the fact we are going for such a special occasion," she said.

We have got to be there for 2pm so if the flight is delayed we are going to be stressed."

EasyJet said passengers whose flights had been cancelled would be fully refunded.

English Language tester Graham Seed, of Trowbridge, is hoping to travel by easyJet to Warsaw, Poland, at 5pm today.

His job, which involves testing international dentists and pharmacists, requires him to set an exam tomorrow morning.

"If I don't make it, the candidates could potentially lose out on getting interviews for jobs, which will seriously affect their future, he said.

Mr Seed, who works at the University of Bath, said he would have to override company policy to follow emergency hand-luggage rules set in the wake of the terror scare, as the confidential exam papers are supposed to be kept in his possession at all times.

A spokesman from David Brown Travel in Chippenham said: "We can definitely see this lasting into next week. It is school holiday season at the moment which means the airports are incredibly busy."
