BEST friends Fawn Blair and Charlotte Gilbert, who saw a poster inviting entries for the Pewsey Carnival Queen contest only the day before it was held, ended up in the final frame with Fawn elected as queen and Charlotte an attendant along with Sophie Bryant.

The selection of the carnival’s royal family took place on Saturday at the Bouverie Hall.

Fawn, 16, who lives in Rushall, said: “I was in Pewsey the day before with Charlotte and we saw the carnival queen poster and both thought it would be a good idea to enter.

“I have always wanted to be in a carnival,” said Fawn, whose mother Julie was a carnival queen lady-in-waiting in Cumbria years ago before heading south to live in Wiltshire.

Fawn has just finished at Pewsey Vale School and goes to St John’s in Marlborough in September to do her A levels. Charlotte, also 16, and from East Grafton, has also just left PVS and is off to New College in Swindon to study childcare.

Sophie is 14 and lives in Pewsey.
