SWINDON Robins ended their 45-year wait for a top-flight British speedway title tonight.
The Robins, leading rivals Poole Pirates by seven points after the first leg of the Elite League Grand Final, wrapped up their first domestic league top-flight crown as they moved into an unassailable lead after 12 heats of the second leg at Poole's Wimborne Road.
Danish rider Peter Kildemand was in inspired form for the visitors, winning his first three races before he and Seb Alden followed home Poole's world champion Chris Holder in the 12th race to ensure the title was heading back to Blunsdon.
Poole hit back in the dead-rubber heats to take the meeting 45-44, but it was too little too late as the Robins' title drought which stretched back to 1967 was ended.
