RUGBY: Warminster 20 Ivel Barbarians 21 (From This Is Wiltshire)

THE width of a post denied Warminster a stunning win over early Dorset & Wilts One South leaders Ivel Barbarians at Folly Lane.

The Barbarians had averaged more than 50 points per game in their previous three encounters, but only succeeded as Jason Sprangle’s conversion attempt flew narrowly off target.

The visitors made the better start and scored a converted try and, after Sprangle was off target with a penalty attempt, added a second converted score to move 14-0 ahead.

However, the amber and blues responded from the kick-off, flanker Adam Matthew smashing an opponent backwards and setting up the position from which centre Rob Bell went over.

Sprangle missed a further penalty and, after half time, Ivel added a third converted try to move further clear.

Warminster though, came back again, Bell bludgeoning his way to the line and Sprangle converting and then adding a penalty to cut the gap to six.

The hosts then saw chances for full-back Sam Couch and Bell go begging but, when Ivel missed a penalty to take them out of bonus-point range, Warminster stormed up field and number eight Carl Field surged over in the corner.

The conversion was difficult for Sprangle though and his attempt went inches wide.
