ON a day that was blessed with glorious football conditions, the main surprise came in the First Division of the Auto Business Solutions sponsored Chippenham Sunday League.
Leaders North Bradley came up against strong opposition from Kingfisher who have now established a reputation of league giant killers.
Chris Fardell gave Bradley the lead but this was cancelled out by a 30 yard Adam Smith free kick before half time. Marcus Young then scored twice to give Kingfisher an advantage but Andy Colebrooke pulled one back for a thrilling finale to the game.
Young completed his hat trick for the visiting side but only after a missed penalty by Phil Read had ended the villagers hopes of a point.
Chippenham Sports & Social finally scored the goal they have been chasing and gained an away point at the same time when they played Potterne.
Anthony Brown gave the Chippenham side the lead in the 75th minute only for his brother Germaine to give away a penalty at the other end which James Bayes dispatched for a share of the points.
Third placed Semington moved up after a comfortable 4-0 win away at Hullavington to second. Kelvin Lockwood and Richard Allum got them under way with strikes in the first half. Stewart Donohoe and a beautifully curled effort by Nathan Walker completed the scoring.
After having a week off is was business as usual for FC Colerne who ran out comfortable 11-1 winners against the in form Atworth.
With competition for places being high on the agenda every player gave 110% but man of the match Jason Smith gave that little bit extra, scoring once and assisting in no fewer than eight goals.
The goals came from hat tricks for Jamie Bowler, Dave Roderick and Charlie Spirrell with the singles for Brian Doyle and the impressive Smith.
Chippenham Police are still in search of their first point of the season and their visit to high flying North Star A was never likely to be fruitful.
A third hat trick in five games for Ronny Kallmeier together with goals from Ally Duncan, Tommy Ludford, Marc Forrester, Rob Smith and an own goal made up the Star's total. Jason Roberts hit possibly the goal of the game from 25 yards as consolation for the boys in blue as North Star finished the game with only nine fit players.
A classic 16 yard header from Leon Ireland and a Josh Robinson effort gave Foresters a two nil half time lead against Christian Malford. In the second half the game was more evenly balanced with a further Forester goal from Steve Peglar and one for the Malford from Richard Bruce.
Premier Division
With so many teams involved in cup competitions there were only two fixtures left in the top flight and the advantage went to both the home sides.
Bradford News ran in five goals against Sherston Town despite losing goal keeper Charlie Heydon and the influential Mark Hurkett early in the first half.
This didn't halt their progress and they went in two up at half time thanks to Jamie Davies and a tap in for sub Jamie Bliss. John Burt, deputizing for the injured Heydon, only parried the ball into the air for Sherston to get one back early in the second half but two for Jason Povey and one from Martin Powell put the game out of reach for Sherston.
Trowbridge Harriers are still looking for their first win of the campaign and came desperately close this Sunday when they made the journey to Maud Heath Sports. They held the Sportsmen to a goal less first period but forgot to go out after the break and found themselves three adrift.
A spirited comeback saw a Steve Lewin cross end up in the back of the net complete with the defender who had deflected it in and a 15 yard shot from Mike Spong brought it back to a more respectable 3-2 defeat for the Harriers.
Division two
Horse and Groom finally got the win they have been so desperately looking for when they beat higher league opposition Biddestone Arms by three goals to one.
The turning point of the match was a penalty save by Paul Aland in the Groom goal that at the time would have given the Arms the lead. Prior to that Tom Hanks had given the Westbury pub side the lead only for Jack good ship to level things.
A back post header from Ben Derrick and Paul Bendell finally getting on the score sheet after missing a number of good chances gave the Groom a much needed victory and lifted them out of the relegation zone.
Sutton Benger entertained British Lion OC at Stanley Park looking for their first win of the season but it was British Lion who took the lead on 18 minutes.
Luke Enderby's neat ball allowed Webster to spring the offside trap and he unselfishly squared to allow Andy Stonestreet to tap home from six yards. The Lion nearly went further ahead three minutes later.
With two on two Enderby took on Steve Gawke but his shot was pawed away by Andy Best.
Benger were generally stifling the visitor's game and with only one up front their attacks were sporadic.
However, Danny Cocker's burst through from midfield on 25 minutes was only denied by a last ditch tackle from Lion captain, Duncan Biggin. Two minutes later Cocker's cross was well met by James Pope but his header lacked power and was comfortably gathered by Mark Stonestreet.
Enderby should have scored on the half hour when Rob Drown's cross found him free at the back post. The young striker deciding to try and chest the ball down rather than head for goal.
Ten minutes before half time, Mikey O'Donnell's cross was sweetly struck by West on the volley but with Best rooted to the spot, the shot whistled wide. Right on the break, Jerry Thompson's corner eluded everyone but was somehow scrambled off the Benger line.
Straight after the restart, Webster headed over when he was found in space by Enderby's measured cross, and four minutes later Drown was denied a rare headed goal by a brilliant tip on to the post by Best.
Although Benger stopped the Lion from finding their top gear, the visitors were now taking control of the game and threatened to extend their lead.
However, it was the home side that nearly scored on the hour when Tom Birch's cross was bravely blocked by Lion keeper Stonestreet at Pope's feet.
The missed chance was punished when at the other end, West set Webster free and the larger than life striker calmly clipped home. Webster got his second and the Lion's third on 68 minutes. Enderby and Drown linked well and when the ball fell to Webster he cracked home a low drive from the edge of the box.
Going into the last 20 minutes and with Benger having to open their game up, the Lion threatened to score more. West crossed to Enderby who headed wide and with 15 minutes left the same two nearly conjured a fourth goal.
It finished 3-0 to British Lion OC who remain on the tails of leaders Rowde and AFC Calne whose fixture was unfortunately postponed.
A Carl Davis penalty after five minutes gave Southwick Sports the dream start in their home game against Crown Devizes but there were no further home goals in the remainder of the match. Crown ran in three to take both points with Matty Nash, Darren Thorpe and Paul Revening on the sheet.
With ten minutes to go FC Bradford found themselves in the unusual position of winning a match having taken a two one lead in their game with Pig and Whistle but it was at this point that the Whistle side finally had there full compliment of players having played for fifty minutes with only ten following an early injury. Two goals from Dave Jenkins gave the Melksham side a share of the points.
With Fascia Graphics having pulled out of the league White Horse were the unlucky side to miss out this week with no fixture.
Division Three
Corsham Park Rangers and Westbury Rangers B fought out a spirited mid table draw that saw the Park side take the lead in the 27th minute when a Kevin Hodgkinson cross was met by Mark Purcell whose shot gave the keeper no chance.
They held on until the 87th minute when a corner was only headed clear as far as Pete Seviour whose shot went through the crowd into the net.
AFC Pilot extended their winning run to four games with a victory over Biddestone White Horse. Pilot quickly took the lead on five minutes with a great 30 yards strike from Chris Bishop.
Despite repeated chances, Pilot took until the 25th minute to extend their lead when a cross field ball from Rich Siekeira was headed into his own net from the White Horse defender giving Pilot a two nil half time lead.
In the second half the warnings were there for Pilot as Biddestone continued to catch them on the break but failed to take their chances.
However in the 60th minute Biddestone's determination paid off when they clawed a goal back through Michael Clarke.
With both teams looking dangerous Pilot restored their two goal cushion on 67 minutes when a Chris Bishop cross was headed home from Lee Jackson.
Biddestone continued to press and Tamlyn Goodrich got the score back to 3-2 in the 85th minutes to set up a tense finale.
With The Southgate Inn on cup duty Cooper Avon had the chance to close the gap at the top and this they did in style beating rivals Blue Circle by five goals to two.
The game was finely poised at a goal apiece at half time and it was not until the 75th minute that the flood gates opened, with five being scored in the remaining minutes.
Goals came from Simian Mills and Dave Macey with a brace each and Simon Gillat for the Avon and Russell Dyer and Neil Watts on target for Blue Circle. This game leaves Cooper Avon four points behind the leaders but with a game in hand.
The game of the day in the third division saw bottom two Chippenham United ROAB take on White Hart Combe. In what was expected to be a close encounter White Hart ran out ten one winners, hitting the form that saw them promoted at the end of last season.
Martin Riddell hit the solitary goal for the Chippenham side whilst James Stone scored five, Glyn Stott, Lee Fernandez, Will Cousins, Jamie Farquharson and an own goal made up the Combe total.
For the second week running Wheatsheaf played against Sir Audley's Arms looking to avenge last weeks defeat and it looked good when after 70 seconds a Gavin Cox throw was crossed in by Graham Neale for Adi King to deftly flick it into the net.
Sir Audley's hit back with a Luke Gullick double only for Paul Taylor's shot to be blocked and fall to the feet of Terry Cox who lobbed the keeper from 10 yards leveling the game at half time.
In the second period Stuart White scored his first of the season to put the Audley's back in front and with the final kick of the game the points were secured when James McLaughlin scored from 40 yards.
After picking up the Team of the Week trophy last week Somerford faced a difficult away trip to Pack Horse Rangers and thanks to two Scott Hatton first half goals following defensive errors by the Rangers they had a great chance of picking up the spoils.
This was after a Sean Rushmore free kick and a stunning Glyn Pascoe volley had given Pack Horse the lead. With it all to play for in the second half Somerford unfortunately lost the services of two key players and finally fell behind to two further goals from Steve Jenkins and a second for Rushmore
Division Four
Leaders Little George went in only one up at the break through Ben Husband but came out guns blazing for the second period and knocked in three more against a weakened North Star B.
Steve Healy and a double from Nat Auckland, one following brilliant wing play by Nick Bale were enough to maintain their claim to the title.
Bromham (Sunday) went third and continue to grow in confidence coming out of their home game with Chippenham West End with a two nil win. The goals came, one both side of half time, from Freddie Paget and a bullet header from Steve Moxham.
Wanderers returned to winning ways and can now mount a serious push for the top of the table following their 5-0 away win at Corsham United.
In a game they started with 10 players the visitors were quickly ahead with a Dylan Turner lob from 25 yards. Nick Tate doubled the advantage before the break and further goals from Tate, Domonic Shepherd and Andy Hill completed the rout.
Crown FC went into the game with pressure on them from the previous weeks head lines and they lived up to the hype with a goal shy 5-0 win against The Rising Sun. Solid work by Dan Sloan on the left resulted in a corner 20 minutes into the first half and Jason Lucas was on hand to fire home a low shot.
Rising Sun started to push and could have scored but they only troubled the keeper once from 40 yards, Clive Noyes, celebrating his first clean sheet of the season, pushed the ball safely over the bar.
In the second period good work from the impressive Nick Buckle carved an opening for substitute Adam Bewley to fire at goal. This was cleared by Boyd but Bewley toe poked home to ease the pressure.
Rising Sun unfortunately were forced to take off their man of the match goalkeeper who had saved them on no less than 6 occasions with some sublime saves.
After his exit the goals flooded in, an Ashley Holt throw was flicked on by Dean Potter into the bottom corner of the net, the Crown then turned the game into a training match with so much time and space, passing easily, pushing forward and Potter was awarded his second following some fine individual work by Buckle.
Potter's third could have been a penalty after Buckle ran rings round the back four to get fouled in the area twice, only to keep on his feet hit the inside of the post, and on hand Potter fired in for his hat trick and 13th league goal.
The game between Old Road Tavern and AFC Bell fell foul of their Stanley Park pitch being unavailable due to a firework display.
Wiltshire Sunday Cup
Premier league side Holt FC edged through to the next round after a thriller on the village playing field when they entertained Castrol from Swindon.
They finally won 5-4 in the dying breathes of extra time when Tom Pang beat the keeper from a tight angle to secure the victory. With the score at 2-1 at half time, goals courtesy of Tyler Pang and an own goal, Holt looked to be cruising.
But only ten minutes later Castrol had taken the lead. A Tom Pang header leveled the game to take it to extra time only for Castrol to go ahead again.
Just when the sizable crowd thought that was it, Tyler Pang popped up to record his second and witness his brother scoring the decisive winner.
In the all fourth division clash AFC Melksham were the victors over Trowbridge Town Supporters Club by 4-0 although the score line hides a much tougher test for Melksham who were held until the last 20 minutes of the match.
The first half AFC Melksham controlled almost entirely and continually attacked their opponent's goal and played some lovely football.
Man of the match, Chris Rogers helped the team from midfield to get on top. Melksham had a dozen shots in the first half and Luke Ballinger hit the post twice after rounding the keeper leaving it still goalless at half time.
In the second half Ballinger hit the post again and a half dozen other chances were missed by AFC before the first goal finally came in the form of a Ballinger corner that went straight through a crowd of players.
Melksham followed up shortly afterwards when a great cross by Steve Kew was headed in by Ballinger. Ashley Fletcher came on, was put through on goal, and hit a great first time shot to make it 3-0.
The fourth goal was scored after Melksham counter attacked a weary TTSFC side and Marcus Underwood crossed for in form Luke Ballinger to net his hat trick.
In the second all Chippenham Sunday League affair, second division The Ship FC welcomed Spencer Sports to Stallards in Trowbridge but found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-2 defeat.
A Gary Hignett hat trick, two from Royston Aust and one from James Eatough were enough for the premier side to go through. The Ship replied with goals from Dave Percival and Matt Minnis.
Both King's Arms and The Southgate Inn hit seven against their opponents in home fixtures against Swindon sides. King's Arms beat Patheon 7-4 thanks to goals from debutant Booker Woodford with three, Pete Spong also with a hat trick and Nathan Flower.
The Southgate tally was made up with a Stuart Skinner treble, Julian Alexander with two and singles from Jamie Gale and Nick Taylor in their 7-3 win against Pinehurst Community but the goal of the game came from the head of Jake Davis who scored from 18 yards into his own net.
Dog and Fox Ashley went through via a walk over when their opponents Churchill Arms withdrew and holders Corsham Centre play their game against fancied AFC Gas next week as they were involved in the FA Sunday cup this week.
Two premier league sides went out at this stage of the competition both without scoring. Winsley lost by three at Sunday Marlin and Box Rovers went down 2-0 at Wroughton WMC.
