EVO=STIK LEAGUE SOUTHERN PREMIER DIVISION: Perrin wants cool heads for crunch

FROME Town chief Darren Perrin insists the Robins must treat tomorrow’s crucial showdown with fellow strugglers Hitchin Town like any other game.

Frome were on cloud nine on Wednesday night after they booked their place in the final of the Red Insure Cup but this week’s results in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division saw Perrin’s side slip into the relegation zone.

The Robins are a point behind third-from-bottom Hitchin and the Badgers Hill boss has no doubts over the importance of tomorrow’s clash.

“It’s a very, very big game on Saturday but the important thing for us is that we try and keep our own house in order and approach it the same way we would any other game – that might be hard to do though,” said Perrin.

“Hitchin score goals for fun and have one of the league’s best strikers in John Frendo. We know all about their strengths but their weaknesses too.”

Frome will meet Arlesley Town in the final of the Red Insure Cup after first half goals from new boys Matt Clark, who joined on an initial one-month loan from Salisbury City last week, and Mitch Bryant, who switched to the Robins from Cambridge City on Tuesday, both scored on their home debut to see off Slough Town.

“Getting to the final of the league cup is a massive achievement for a club the size of ours,” said Perrin.

“The players were absolutely fantastic on Wednesday and if we play like that on Saturday, we’ll be fine.”

Last Saturday, Frome suffered a heart-breaking 2-1 league defeat at Redditch United.

Liam McDonald’s 91st minute penalty snatched all three points for the hosts after Dave Thompson’s header had cancelled out Will Richards’ opening goal.

Josh Brigham and Mike Perrott are suspended against Hitchin while Kyle Lapham and Tom Evans miss out through injury.
