Swindon Town Ladies Under 16s beat Chippenham 3-2
SWINDON Town Ladies Under 16s maintained their 10-point lead at the top of the Wiltshire County Womens & Girls League with a 3-2 derby victory over Chippenham.
Karyn Coomes and Chloe Brown scored goals to keep Town level, but Brin Gallagher was on hand to score the winner and secure the bragging rights over their Wiltshire rivals.
Elsewhere, the club’s senior team had a less successful weekend as they went down 1-0 at Plymouth on a difficult pitch.
Swindon were unable to play their usual passing game, but battled long and hard against a side which last year were playing in the Southern Premier.
At the end of an even first half it was the hosts who took the lead in stoppage time following a defensive mix-up, but Swindon were convinced Plymouth should have had a player sent-off after she kicked out at an opponent, only for the referee to show a yellow card.
The visitors kept pushing for an equaliser in the second half, and the hosts were soon reduced to 10 women following a dangerous two-footed tackle on Amy Baker which forced her to be substituted.
Swindon enjoyed the majority of possession thanks to their numerical advantage, but couldn’t snatch the equaliser they deserved as the game finished 1-0.
