Trowbridge players celebrate the first of winger Davies’ two first-half tries against Devizes
TROWBRIDGE waved goodbye to first team league rugby at Green Lane in dramatic fashion on Saturday.
Full-back Jackson Szabo scored a magnificent late solo try to snatch a 17-14 victory over Southern Counties South leaders Devizes.
The victory, watched by more than 100 ex-players and officials who attended a pre-match lunch, narrowed the gap between Steve Ojomoh’s second-placed side and their rivals to seven points, with three matches remaining this season.
The club will move to a new facility near Hilperton in time for next season and head coach Ojomoh was delighted to sign off from their current headquarters with a win.
The former Bath and England player said: “It was a great occasion for the club and I think the enormity of it sank in after the game because even I was exhausted afterwards!’’
“Everybody was relieved just to win the game and I was pleased for the guys at the club.’’
