CHIPPENHAM Town brought the curtain down on their season in style as they put play-off favourites Stourbridge to the sword at Hardenhuish Park.

The Bluebirds served up a treat for their home fans and were able to celebrate their fine end to the campaign by producing one of their most impressive performances of the season.

Nathan Rudge's side struck the first blow in the ninth minute when Joe McClennan tied Stourbridge left-back Lee Osborne in knots before whipping a cross into the box, which was nodded in past despairing keeper Lewis Solly by Dean Griffiths.

Chippenham continued to cause the visitors problems and six minutes later, Alan Griffin looped a header not far off-target from Iain Harvey's delivery.

With 18 minutes on the clock, the Bluebirds raced into a two-goal lead as Griffiths netted his fourth goal in three games.

McClennan drove forward and played the ball out wide to James Guthrie, who flashed a superb first-time cross to striker Griffiths, who had been left unmarked at the far post and was left with the easy task of stooping down low to nod into the net.

Chippenham had started like a house on fire and in the 28th minute, another Bluebirds man who had found his scoring boots in recent weeks decided to get in on the act.

Griffiths latched on to the ball in the Stourbridge box and hooked a cross to the far post, where defender Alex Kite launched himself airborne to meet the ball and arrow a header into the top corner of the net to grab his team's third of the afternoon.

The Bluebirds remained in the ascendancy until the break and picked up where they left off four minutes into the second period when Guthrie got on the end of Griffin's back-heel and raced towards goal before rolling the ball through Solly's legs for number four.

Chippenham were barely allowing their shell-shocked Black Country visitors a sniff at the other end and midway through the half, Griffiths attempted to grab his hat-trick with a speculative effort from range but shot well off-target.

At the other end, Stourbridge substitute Jordan Fitzpatrick went for goal with a low free-kick but saw his shot deflected wide off the wall.

Then with around 15 minutes remaining, the travelling fans were given some cause for amusement as keeper Solly had to come off with a knock and was replaced by assistant manager John.

Ford Ford, who was more used to plying his trade as a defender, was called into action to tip a Griffiths shot over the bar as the cruising Bluebirds remained in control.

Stourbridge's Ben Mackey had a powerful effort deflected high and wide late on as the day belonged to Chippenham, who finish 14th in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division after six victories in their last seven games.
