VETERAN shot-stopper Steve Perrin has quit Chippenham Town to spend more time with his family.
Perrin, a former goalkeeper for the England Non-League team, has called time on his career at Hardenhuish Park after a heart-to-heart talk with brother and manager Darren.
A recurring pelvic injury made worse by the intensity of the Southern League also featured heavily in Perrin's decision to walk away.
The two times Non-League newspaper goalkeeper of the year is still registered with the Bluebirds and has promised to deputise for the club in the absence of Chris Snoddy.
Perrin has not retired from football, and will no doubt receive a host of offers from Toolstation League clubs.
Blues boss Darren Perrin said Steve would be sorely missed not just for his ability, but also for his character in the dressing room.
He said: "Steve has had an incredible career and both myself and the board of directors would like to thank him for the contribution he has made to this club.
"In my opinion Steve is the best goalkeeper in the league, full stop. He's been carrying a pelvic injury for some time and that affected some of his performances. The last few weeks he has been feeling much sharper and the two penalty saves against Rugby and Lymington were testament to that.
"But with two young children Steve felt it was time to step aside and let Chris Snoddy take over. We wish him all the best."
