STRIKER Ash Edenborough is targeting another trip to the play-offs after making a swift return to Swindon Supermarine.

Following last season’s Division One South & West play-off semi-final defeat at the hands of Merthyr Town Edenborough departed for promoted Hungerford along with Josh Parsons and Chris Taylor, but just over a month later he has returned to South Marston for personal reasons.

Edenborough feels at home and the Webb’s Wood Stadium and is looking forward to getting into the swing of things again, and is anticipating another successful season on the pitch.

“I wasn’t at Hungerford long but I did enjoy it, but while it would have been good if I was able to stay I wasn’t able due to a few reasons and I needed to come back,” he said.

“It works better for me to be at Marine, and it’s great to be back because they are a good club who I have enjoyed playing for. I still have a good relationship with Bobby (Wilkinson, Hungerford manager) and he has left the door open for me, but for now it’s great to be back at Supermarine.

“Last season was good for us and hopefully I can get back fit and help us do the same again, and we have a good team even though we lost Josh and Chris.

“We should definitely be making the play-offs, and hopefully pushing right up there for promotion again.”

Edenborough, Taylor and Parsons were arguably Marine’s three leading players last season, but although Parsons and Taylor are no longer at the club Edenborough has seen a number of new faces who he believes can step up and fill their shoes.

“There’s a young lad called Gio Wrona who has joined us, and from what I’ve seen of him over the last week or so he looks very sharp and is good on the ball in midfield so he should cause plenty of problems,” he said.

“All it needs is for someone to step up and replace the goals that Josh scored, and I’m sure there are lads in the squad who can do that and give me some vital support.”

Last night Edenborough scored the winner in a friendly against Wootton Bassett at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

The striker scored a late penalty as Marine bounced back from two goals down to win 3-2.
