Swindon Rugby Club to host fun day
SWINDON Rugby Club will be doing their bit for charity when they host a fun day tomorrow.
The event at Greenbridge Road is centred around the first team’s final pre-season friendly against Keynsham, which begins at 2.30pm, but there will also be a host of other games on the day.
Also in action will be the club’s ladies and junior teams, while a special part of the day will see Swindon, Swindon College Old Boys and Supermarine players compete in a three-way veterans exhibition.
Live music and a full range of food and a barbecue will be on offer along with cream teas and cakes. There will also be plenty of attractions for all the family including face painting, inflatables and pony rides.
Swindon chairman Stuart Cock said: “Saturday is going to see the best sport in the world help the best charities in Swindon and it’s going to be fun for all the family.
“The first-team game will be great to watch while watching some of the senior players in action earlier in the day is also going to be pretty special.”
Swindon fly-half Adam Westall believes the game with Keynsham will prove to be a vital part of his side’s pre-season preparations.
“We are confident we will be ready for the first league game but due to unavailability, more players will be given a chance to stake a claim for first team rugby," he said.
"Sean (Lynn, head coach) has continued his commitment to the youngsters by involving a number of them this Saturday."
“The season is a marathon not a sprint so we will be reliant on a large number of players throughout the season, so it’s vital we support their development as much as we can.”
