WOMEN'S RUGBY: Thumping win for Supermarine
SUPERMARINE Ladies ran in 14 tries and kicked eight conversions as they beat Lutterworth 86-10 in their final pre-season friendly.
The Swindon side get their league campaign under way against London Welsh next weekend but travelled to Leicestershire looking to try a number of new combinations ahead of the start of the new season.
Natalie Williams managed a hat-trick as well as all the Marine conversions, while Gemma Richards and Claire Chard scored three tries each. Amy Stanley and Hannah Gardin also both scored two while Sam Watts managed her first try for the club.
Supermarine were able to attack from the get-go after Lutterworth kicked off and with their pack driving hard they were able to push the home defence back, which led to a number of early tries.
Although most of the play was taking place in the Lutterworth half, the Marine ladies defended well to deny their hosts on several occasions before they did manage a try before the whistle.
The second-half saw Supermarine down to 14 players through injury, but despite the disadvantage, they managed to keep a strong defence preventing Lutterworth from gaining an advantage.
Supermarine were strong in the scrum and won the ball on many occasions, allowing them more chances to break the defence and add to the score regularly.
Lutterworth did not give up despite the scoreline and kept pushing which eventually paid off and they were awarded their second and final try of the game.
Supermarine were determined to keep the score ticking over and worked together, displaying some good support play resulting in some quick tries before the final whistle was blown.
The forward of the match award went to Marie Barber and back of the match was earned by Adele Marshall-Reynolds after they both put in excellent performances.
