TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Late goal earns Combe a draw
9:17am Wednesday 4th September 2013 in Sport
AFTER scoring a late goal on Saturday afternoon to beat Calne Eagles 4-3 in their opening game of the season, Warminster Town Reserves conceded late at home to Castle Combe on Tuesday evening giving them a 1-1 draw and denying them first ever back-to-back victories in Division One.
Warminster were very wasteful in front of goal in the first half with Lewis Graham hitting the post on 30 minutes and then missing from the penalty spot two minutes before the break.
Within two minutes of the restart, Graham then went from zero to hero as he finally found the net to give Warminster the lead, which they should have been increased by Shaun Sheppard but he somehow missed a sitter.
Some excellent goalkeeping from Combe’s Luke Jones also kept his team in the game.
At the other end Warminster stopper Adam Collington was also playing his part in keeping the hosts in front but he was finally beaten in the 87th minutes when Matt White turned the ball home to earn Combe a deserved share of the spoils from what was a thrilling contest well refereed by Paul Collyer.
