Fine finish from Swindon's Howell in Switzerland
DAVID Howell finished tied-26th at the European Masters in Switzerland yesterday after firing a closing round of two-under-par.
The Swindonian, who carded one-over at Crans-sur-Sierre on Saturday, followed that up with a round of 69 to finish six-under for the tournament.
Teeing off on the back nine, Howell enjoyed a strong opening five holes as he made gains on 10, 11 and 14.
A bogey on the 16th was followed by a birdies at the 17th and first, but dropped shots at the second and fouth saw the Broome Manor pro slip back.
Thomas Björn sunk a 12-footer on the first play-off hole to take the Omega European Masters title.
Extra holes were required to separate Björn and overnight leader Craig Lee, who struck 65 and 67 respectively on the final day.
The former made quick work of sealing victory thereafter, birdieing the 18th with a fine putt that sealed his 14th success on the European Tour and second in this tournament, following his triumph two years ago.
