Wildcats fall short of perfection at Slough
SWINDON Wildcats saw their hopes of a perfect pre-season record dashed last night as they were defeated 3-2 at Slough.
Ryan Aldridge’s men had previously beaten the Jets and also completed the double over Telford, but they could not make it four out of four at the Hangar.
Slough went in front at 10.17 when they made the most of Stevie Whitfield’s tripping penalty to score through Darius Pliskauskas on the powerplay.
Ollie Betteridge and Jonas Hoog combined for the former to send the equaliser past Gregg Rockman early in the second period (22.19).
Jets player-coach Slava Koulikov then restored the hosts’ lead at 27.38 with summer signing Ales Padelek providing the assist.
Rockman then exited the action in favour of Danny Milton and Padelek then got on the scoresheet himself as Koulikov returned the favour (36.42).
Michael Crisp then replaced Stevie Lyle in the Swindon net and at 54.09 Adam Harding gave Wildcats hope when he fired into the net from Hoog.
However, Slough held on to ensure that Swindon’s pre-season campaign ended in defeat.
Forward Sam Bullas and Czech defenceman Jan Melichar did not ice for the Wiltshire outfit last night.
Wildcats begin their EPL campaign at Basingstoke on Saturday before taking on Slough at the Link Centre on Sunday.
