CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Decision looming
CHAIRMAN Neil Blackmore has confirmed that Chippenham Town are planning to announce their new manager next Friday (September 20).
The Southern League Bluebirds have been on the hunt for a new boss since Nathan Rudge resigned last month and the board of directors met last night to draw up a shortlist of candidates to be interviewed before the end of next week.
Blackmore expects four potential managers, including current caretaker boss Steve Winter, to make up the shortlist, as the Hardenhuish Park club look to bring their search to a close.
Former Swindon Supermarine boss Mark Collier has already declared his interest in the role.
“I don’t want it to drag on any longer so the deadline for our final decision is next Friday,” Blackmore told the Gazette & Herald.
“I think that it’s about time that we decide on who’s going to be the next manager and move forward.
“I’m looking at having three candidates on the shortlist for interviews, plus Steve Winter.
“I am pleased that we’ve managed to keep things going well on the pitch and I was mindful of things going wrong after Nathan resigned.
“Steve has done a good job and the players are all happy – our dressing room is a good place at the moment.
“One or two players have left but that’s nothing to do with the manager but more to do with their own reasons. Hopefully we can concentrate on moving forward soon.”
Caretaker chief Winter has been backed for the full-time job by a number of the players but the former Torquay United man is happy to keep on quietly going about his business until he finds out if he’s been given the nod.
“I think that everyone knows that I want the job. It’s nice that a few of the players have said that they’d be happy for me to get it,” said Winter.
“But for me, I just want to try and keep going until I find out what’s happening. I’m pretty pleased with what I’ve done with the team so far.”
