MOTORCYCLING: Donington delight as Bridewell excels

TOMMY Bridewell has set his sights on more podium finishes before the conclusion of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship season after chalking up a second top-three place for his new team in two meetings.
Etchilhampton ace Bridewell, who signed for the Bolton-based Halsall Racing Kawasaki team in July, finished third in the second of two races at the Donington Park round last weekend, following a second spot in the previous outing at Cadwell Park.
A technical fault forced the 23 year old out of the opening race, denying him the chance of a place in the end of season Showdown, which sees the top six riders contesting the Championship over the final three rounds.
But the Wiltshire man will target more success in rounds at Assen, Silverstone and Brands Hatch before the end of the campaign.
Bridewell, who battled with championship leader Shane Byrne, before finishing third said: “The weekend has been fantastic all in all.
“We just had some bad luck in race one with the engine and had we not had the trouble I'm sure we could've been on the podium.
“Obviously it is a massive shame that we couldn't make it into the Showdown but from here I want to make my own mark on the end of the season by battling for the podium as much as I can in the final three rounds.’’ Team owner Martin Halsall added: “It's been another fantastic end to the weekend for Tommy.
“Obviously he was disappointed in race one but he did the right thing pulling in when he did.
“The most important thing now is to look to next year and hope we can move forward with Tommy for what could be a very good season.
- MARLBOROUGH driver Roger Lovelock claimed a podium position from the two Eastern Airways British Sidecar Championship races at Donington.
Reigning champion Lovelock and passenger Aki Alto were in fourth position in race one when it was red-flagged, but were battling near the front of race two despite brake problems and finished third.
