CORSHAM coach Dan Jeffries feels he may finally have found the depth and spark he has been after, after beefing up the Lacock Road squad for the club’s 50th anniversary season.

Former England youth international and county player Tim Norton is the latest recruit to Jeffries’ ranks, although the midfield ace is recovering from long-term injury and won’t be available until October.

“Tim will add a real flair to the midfield and complements the squad already in place,’’ said Jeffries.

“I have worked with Tim as a county player and he is a genuinely unique talent and one of the most naturally gifted footballers I have ever worked with.

“I am really excited to work with him again and he will bring an extra spark to the squad.’’ Norton will be joined by county prop and former club captain Steve Bailey, who returns following a year at Chippenham.

Corsham have also signed winger Jamie Shipman from local rivals Melksham, England youth international and county lock Rhys Jones, England U18 Jake Oldaker, back rower Jack Hargett, from local rivals Walcot, former Bath United and Oldfield flanker Joey Carley and centre Sean Kelly and promoted Alex Bilton from the Colts.

Jeffries, whose side go to Weymouth in their Southern Counties South opener on Saturday captained by centre Dave Finlay, added: “We have had a prosperous pre-season and the squad has developed well.We must now ensure the team gels effectively.’’

Coach Rob Rowbotham again leads Warminster in Dorset & Wilts One South, the Folly Lane side having lost the services of their last two players’ player of the year winners, Rob Johnson and Luke Phillips, as well as back rowers Mat Bone and Carl Hall.

Tighthead prop Steve Rowbotham returns from Devizes and ex-Bristol and Coventry back row Jamie Miller has also arrived.

Michael Bamsey has stayed on as Westbury head coach for their One South campaign, which begins tomorrow at home to Salisbury 2nd.

Bradford on Avon face a tough-looking start to their Dorset & Wilts One North campaign, with two-time defending champions Chippenham 2nd the visitors to Ashley Lane tomororow.
