RUGBY: Windsor 39 Devizes 14
3:30pm Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Sport
DEVIZES are still searching for their opening South West One East victory of the season after defeat at one of the league favourites on Saturday.
Travelling to Home Park, the Saddlebacks welcomed back Julian Taylor to openside flanker in place of the unavailable Hugo O’Neill and Luke Rapson into full-back for the rested Chris Barter.
There were three changes to the bench with Toby Buckingham as front row replacement, Tom Moon covering the back row and Rory Brown as backs replacement.
The Saddlebacks played well in the first half despite an early Windsor try halting a promising start.
Despite this early setback, which was further hampered by a converted Windsor penalty to make it 8-0, Devizes started to dominate and were well run by a decent set piece with the scrum and lineout going well.
In the loose the bigger ball carriers on the team, namely James Gaiger, Tom Reed, Craig Bryant and Toby Randall all made inroads to put the home side under pressure.
That brought its rewards as fly-half Andy Thompson kicked three penalties to give the away side the lead.
However, Windsor regained the advantage just before the interval, a converted try taking themr 15-9 clear.
That blow stunned the visitors, who shipped three further converted tries and a penalty to slip 39-9 behind.
The Saddlebacks tried to throw the ball around a bit more and were rewarded when scrum-half Tom Collins scored one of his trademark tries, burrowing over from five metres out.
DEVIZES are on the hunt for front row players to bolster their squads for the 2013-14 season.
