Millwaters sets battle plan for Combe Down
SUPERMARINE head coach Sean Millwaters knows exactly what to expect from visitors Combe Down tomorrow and has confidence in his players’ ability to deal with their physical approach.
The two sides won their opening games last weekend, as Marine ran out 33-9 winners at Trowbridge and Combe Down comfortably beat Pewsey Vale 49-14, with the Swindon side sitting second in the table after the first weekend.
Millwaters is expecting a physical game from Combe Down played mainly through the forwards, but believes his side have all the attributes to cope with them.
“We’ve got to be very wary because Combe Down put 50 points on Pewsey Vale, and even though Pewsey don’t really travel away all that well they still had to score the points,” he said.
“We have to be very wary about them coming to us because we don’t really know them having not played them for quite a while, although out second team played them last year in a close game.
“We will have a little chat about them with some of the older guys from the seconds and see what we can pick up, and I don’t think their style of rugby will change too much.
“It sounds as if they may have picked up a few players so we need to go out there with the same attitude we’ve been building in recent weeks and impose our game on them.
“They will probably hit off the side, hit off the side with a big pack to make space and move the ball to the backs, but we are confident of dealing with that.
“I’m expecting route one rugby because of the fact they have only just come up so we are preparing for a pretty basic gameplan, so as long as out defence is on the ball and we play our rugby we should win.”
