PORTUGAL MASTERS: Double bogey sours Howell's opening round
SWINDON‘S David Howell endured a rollercoaster two-under-par opening round at the Portugal Masters this afternoon.
The Broome Manor pro, who won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship a week and a half ago, made a modest start at Oceanico Victoria.
In a threeball with Miguel Angel Jimenez and Paul Lawrie, Howell was one-over through the turn but he then embarked on a superb run of five birdies between 12 and 17.
However, a double bogey six at the 18th pegged the 38-year-old back to four shots off the lead.
The Wiltshireman will begin his second round at 8.40am tomorrow.
