Shrivvy lose again but Turner pleased with performance
SHRIVENHAM boss Dave Turner was delighted with his side’s performance despite their 2-1 defeat at Cheltenham Saracens last night.
Turner’s side have now lost five on the bounce and are without a win since October 1 following their latest defeat, but after going in 1-0 down at the break they fought back strongly in the second half and would have been good value for a point.
As Shrivvy pushed forward in search of an equaliser they were caught on the break as the Cheltenham side doubled their advantage, and although Harry Etheridge managed a late goal with a powerful header it was not enough as they were condemned to another defeat.
Despite the loss Turner was upbeat at the final whistle and insisted he could not have asked for more from his players.
“I think we probably played 80 per cent of the second half in their half of the field but we just couldn’t score to level it up, and when Harry did score a bullet header it was a little too late.
“We’re frustrated with the result, of course we are, but I’m delighted with the performance because they were all brilliant to a man this evening.
“If I get that from them every week there will be no complaints and we will win plenty of games.
“It’s hard to lose and I don’t like losing, but we won’t get down about it and we will just carry on playing.
“I’ve got a really good group here at the moment and we are all working hard, and if we keep doing that I’m sure the results will come.
“We knew it would be tough this year from the start and I’m sure we will turn the corner.”
The defeat leaves Shrivenham 17th in the Hellenic Premier ahead of their home game with title-chasing Oxford City Nomads on Saturday.
