BMW MASTERS: Expensive front nine costs Howell
DAVID Howell plunged down the BMW Masters leaderboard after a catastrophic front nine on day three at Lake Malaren.
The Swindon star is now tied-70th out of 76 in Shanghai following a desperately disappointing third 18 at the first event of the European Tour's lucrative Final Series.
Triple bogeys at the third and ninth sandwiched a double bogey at the sixth, and although the 38-year-old fought back gamely and carded one-under for the back nine, the damage was done.
World number 95 Howell finished on seven-over which took him to 13-over for the tournament heading into tomorrow's final round.
The joint leaders on eight-under are Spain's Rafa Cabrera-Bello and the USA's Luke Guthrie.
