BMW MASTERS: Swindon's Howell finishes 11-over in Shanghai
DAVID Howell finished tied-61st at the BMW Masters in Shanghai following a mixed showing in his final two rounds.
The world number 95 began the weekend at the lower end of the leaderboard and carded a weighty seven-over-par 79 on a disappointing jaunt round Lake Malaren on Saturday.
Triple bogeys at the third and ninth sandwiched a double bogey at the sixth, and although the 38-year-old fought back gamely and carded one-under for the back nine, the damage was done.
Howell gave a much-improved display yesterday, recording a two-under-par 70, his only under-par round of the tournament.
That was enough to pull him back to 11-over for the event, which is the first tournament of the European Tour’s lucrative Final Series.
The Broome Manor pro was rewarded with €9,943 for his efforts.
The tournament was won by Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano who shot a four-under final round to finish on 11-under overall.
Just behind on 10-under were Italy’s Francesco Molinari and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee.
