SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Etheridge leaves Marine for league rivals
HARRY Etheridge has ended a two-and-a-half year association with Swindon Supermarine after signing for Thatcham tonight.
The centre-midfielder put pen to paper at Waterside Park and should go straight into new boss Richie Bourne's squad for Saturday's home clash with Paulton.
Etheridge confirmed his departure on Twitter, revealing: "That's the end of a fantastic era! Great club, Great staff & a bunch of Players that #CrackRightOn!
"Thanks for everything @SupermarineFC."
Largely a squad player at the Webb's Wood Stadium, Etheridge has nonetheless been a popular figure in the Marine dressing room.
He spent a brief period on loan at Shrivenham earlier this season before returning to his primary club, starting the three most recent games.
The 25-year-old becomes the third player to leave Marine inside a fortnight following the departures of left-back Danny Allen, who has retired, and loanee striker Kayden Jackson, who was recalled by Swindon Town and then sent out to Oxford City.
Etheridge, who has also played for Shortwood, Highworth and Cirencester, will get the chance to face his former employers when Thatcham travel to Marine on Saturday, December 7.
Meanwhile, forward Ben Whitehead looked set to leave Marine for Didcot on Friday.
The ex-Abingdon United man joined the South Marston club in January and has scored five goals in 10 appearances this term.
Should the switch go through, it may tempt Marine boss Dave Webb to recall one of dual-registered duo Josh Fowler or Gio Wrona from loans at Shrivenham and Devizes respectively.
Ash Edenborough and Luke Abrahart are the only front men available to the manager at present.
