CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Blackmore expects swift appointment with Collier firmly in frame
CHIPPENHAM Town chairman Neil Blackmore has revealed that he expects to pick a new manager from the shortlist drawn up before Steve Winter's appointment by the end of the week - with Mark Collier seemingly firmly in the frame to take over.
The Bluebirds parted company with Winter last Wednesday and Blackmore says that he has received a fresh batch of applications for the vacant manager's position in the three days since.
But the Chippenham chairman plans to return to the four-man shortlist of candidates interviewed for the Hardenhuish Park hotseat in September and the Gazette & Herald understands that former Swindon Supermarine boss Collier is in pole position for the role.
Collier is currently on holiday, but is expected to return early this week. He was interviewed for the role before the decision to hand Winter the reins in the wake of Nathan Rudge's departure earlier this season.
“We've got a game on Monday to concentrate on but I'm definitely going to announce somebody by the end of the week,” said Blackmore.
“What I've been very pleased about is that I've had ten enquiries, either by phone or e-mail and in addition to the people we previously interviewed, for the manager's job.
“In all honesty, we had a very good shortlist before and I'm going to go back to that list. I've interviewed all of those people already and I have their CVs.
“I know that when I appointed to Steve, all of them said 'Thank you very much. If it doesn't work out with Steve, come back to me'.”
“I think it proves that people think this is a big job – as I say, I've had ten more applicants this week.
“I think it's almost certain that it's going to be one of those on the shortlist though.”
Senior strikers Alan Griffin and Lee Phillips took charge of the Bluebirds during this afternoon's 4-1 FA Trophy defeat at Bognor Regis Town.
Blackmore added: “All credit to Phillo and Griff – they spent time putting everything together on Thursday and thank you to Nigel Tripp too for coming in at the last minute but we need to get a manager in now to put their stamp on it.”
