Last chance saloon at Hardenhuish Park

DARREN Perrin has told his underachieving players they have the Christmas fixtures to save their Chippenham Town careers.

The Bluebirds boss was so incensed with the 3-0 defeat at Cheshunt on Saturday he dragged his players in for extra training on Monday.

"Some of them have been told they are in the last chance saloon," he said ahead of Halesowen's visit to Hardenhuish Park on Saturday.

"I feel Adie (Mings, assistant manager) and I have been fair but the time has come to change things.

"After two league wins we thought we had got back to where we want to be but Saturday's performance was abject and certain players have been told that."

Perrin revealed he is tracking two more players, following the capture of utility man Yan Klukowski while he is on his Christmas break from a football scholarship in the US.

He said: "We want to bring in two more but in order to do that we have to get two out.

"It will be a catch 22 situation, if we bring in two players and can't let others go we will then be over budget. Players have to leave before we get others in."

Perrin confirmed there had been interest from clubs for "one or two" of his squad but was adamant it was not for 14-goal top scorer Dave Gilroy.

Gilroy had been linked with a move to Weston-super-Mare but Perrin dismissed the rumour out of hand.

"I can quash that straight away, I haven't had any contact from Weston and the rumours probably surfaced because I watched their game with Bishop's Stortford last Wednesday," he said.

"I wasn't scouting, I was just watching the game because I enjoy watching football."

Perrin now is relishing the Christmas period with games against Cirencester on Boxing Day, Mangotsfield Saturday, December 30, Bath City on New Years Day and King's Lynn on Saturday, January 6.

He said: "We have had a good record against local teams over the last couple of years, and the players will need to produce following Saturday's performance."
