RUGBY: Bletchley 40 Royal Wootton Bassett 3
5:00pm Tuesday 3rd December 2013 in Sport
A MUCH-CHANGED Bassett side fell at league leaders Bletchley on Saturday.
Forced into seven changes from the previous week’s game due to work commitments and illness, Bassett knew they would be up against it but for long period more than matched their opponents.
Starting the game well Bassett exerted early pressure and were rewarded when Dave Hogg kicked them into a three-point lead.
The majority of the first half was an even affair but Bletchley showed their attacking prowess when their dangerous back three twice opened up the Bassett defence to move into a 12-3 lead.
The killer blow was struck right on the half time whistle as Bassett didn’t deal with a clearance kick and from the resultant lineout Bletchely drove over for a converted try and a commanding 19-3 interval lead.
The second half saw Bletchley's big pack gain more control and were rewarded with three converted tries to claim a convincing win.
