SIMON Dill and Gary O’Brien could not be split as they shared male athlete of the year at Swindon Harriers’ annual awards night at Stratton Community Centre.

Dill won the Wiltshire and south west 800m titles in personal best times and set a road mile club record of 4:34, ranking him 58th in the UK.

The 22-year-old also competed in the British Students’ Cross-Country Championship and at 800m in the South of England U20 & Senior Championships in addition to winning parkruns in Swindon and Kingston-upon-Thames and improving his PBs at 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m.

O’Brien was the sixth male vet 40 athlete home at the Great North Run and Reading Half Marathon, and won male vet 40 titles at the Wiltshire 10 Mile and Castle Combe 10k.

The 42-year-old, ranked 59th in the UK at 10 miles for male vet 40, won the Devizes Half Marathon and was second overall in both the Swindon 10k and the Calne Clock Change Challenge 10k.

Having endured a wretched 2012 due to injury, teenager Abbie Chaundy bounced back in 2013 and was duly awarded female athlete of the year in recognition.

Chaundy, 16, was sixth at triple jump in both the English Schools’ Championships and the UK School Games, setting and equalling a club record of 11.16m in the process.

She also equalled the long jump and 100m club records and is top-ranked in the south west at long and triple jump.

The achievement award was presented to Keeleigh Chapman in recognition of another impressive year in which the 18-year-old won the Welsh Indoor 60m hurdles junior title and made her international junior debut in an under 20s meet against England.
