DANE Peter Kildemand has completed his remarkable rise through British speedway after signing on to become Swindon Robins’ number one for 2014.

The 24-year-old joined the club at reserve for the start of 2012 but ended his first season in a heat leader position, before improving his average again in 2013 to his current figure of 8.25.

Despite rumours of a move to Poole he will now join fellow returnees Troy Batchelor and Nick Morris in the main body of the Robins team for next season, leaving Alun Rossiter with 9.64 of his 32-point team building limit to play with as he searches for two riders to complete his top five.

Kildemand, who has won the Advertiser’s rider of the year award for the last two seasons, admitted if he had not sealed a move back to Swindon then he would have probably given British speedway a miss altogether, but is now looking forward to leading the Robins in 2014.

“I’m pleased to be back in England and pleased to be back at Swindon too because I really like the place and I like the people,” he said.

“If it wasn’t Swindon I probably wouldn’t have done England to be honest because it’s such a good club.

“Being number one is going to be great and I can’t wait to move up and try that. We have Nick and Troy back already and that’s great because it’s always nice to come back and see people you know.”

Rossiter is pleased to have been able to fit the popular Dane into his side, but despite the rider having made the journey from reserve to number one in only two seasons the Robins boss still believes his rider can improve further.

“Peter joined us on a four-point average and came on leaps and bounds to get over eight points in two seasons, but I still think he’s learning," he said.

“We’re really pleased he is on board with us for next year and we are all pretty excited to have him back.

“He sometimes busts a gut to win every race when he sometimes need to show a bit of maturity, but he’s still on the young side and he’s still improving.

“I’m sure the Robins faithful will be happy with this signing and it’s great we now have three riders coming back from last year.”

Kildemand’s return officially rules popular asset Jason Doyle out of a team place.
