CHIPPENHAM slipped to their sixth National Three South West defeat on the trot as they were edged out in Cheltenham.
The visitors obtained the early advantage when home flanker George Angell was sin-binned for handling in a ruck and John Boddington took advantage to score a try converted by Emory Garrett.
Tries from wings Joe Ballinger and Dan Burrows gave Pats the ascendancy but when Josh Stevens was yellow-carded, Chippenham again took advantage and centre Tom Borham added a converted try.
Pats fly-half George Hughes’s solo effort and a score from Ben Spry put them back in control, Hughes converting Spry’s effort.
But Chippenham’s pack got them back into it, forcing the home side’s James Pettigrew to collapse a maul and get sin-binned, while a penalty try was awarded.
Winger Matt Bye added a fourth try for the Wiltshire men was they wrapped up at least a bonus point.
But they were denied victory as the home pack muscled over after Gethin Evans had secured a lineout, Stevens touching down and Hughes converting.
